D5L Recreational Craft Operators

The D5L certificate is required in order to operate a recreational craft with a hull length of 15 meters and upwards, but less than 24 meters, in the trade area Great Coasting. 

The course consists of 120 classes (each 45 min.) divided between eight subjects followed by a written exam for each of the six theoretical subjects. The course is mainly theoretical (six subjects/105 classes) but also practical training (two subjects/17 classes). Both the practictical subjects and exams require physical attendence. 

 The course consists of eight modules, where each module has a written or practical final exam:

  • Navigation
  • Navigation aids
  • Rules of the road at sea and bridge guarding
  • Ship's Apprenticeship
  • Security
  • Technology/motor science
  • Navigation aids in practice (practical)
  • Vessel handling (practical)
