D6 – Certificate of Competency for Deck Officer Class 6
The D6 certificate is required for masters on most cargo ships of 8 metres in overall length and upwards, but less than 24 meters, in the trade area Small Coasting. The course consists of 110 classes (each 45 min.) divided between seven subjects followed by a written exam for each of the six theoretical subjects:
- Navigation
- Navigational Instruments
- Rules of the Road at Sea and Navigational Watch Requirements
- Stability
- Technology and marine motor engineering
- Operational Management
- Practical
Both the practictical subject and exams require physical attendence.

- Main course, incl. books: NOK. 35.900,-
- Exam per subject(6 exams): NOK.1650,-
- Fee for issuance by the Norwegian Maritime Authority: NOK. 985,-
